NEWS

3 January 2020

We hereby cordially invite you to the 16th edition of Thailand Open.
The date for the tournament was already known for some time, but we have waited a long time before publishing the program. All this time there was a request from the Asian dambond to organize the Asian championship during the Thailand Open. We have been considering that request for a long time, to look seriously at whether it could also be fitted into the already overcrowded program of a regular edition of Thailand Open. With a regular edition of Thailand Open we have already planned 5 tournaments in a large week every year: the regular Open tournament, Blitz and Rapid championship, and of the 64-field section also the Blitz and Rapid championship. With hard work that was easy to handle every year. The Thai dambond had already declined the invitation to organize the Asian championship, now the hope had been put on us to make this championship possible on Thai soil. Until the last minute, we looked at whether this really was not compatible with the Thailand Open, but there were too many practical objections. We would have to take into account an additional 100-150 checkers (last year the championship had 155 participants), and that would have been too much to ask for in terms of capacity in the gaming room. So we keep the program as in previous years.
Program

Also for 2020 we have tried to put together a very attractive program for you. You can see for yourself what you want to participate in. For example, you can only choose the tournament, or only Dubai and the tournament in Thailand, or only the tournament in Thailand Open. This year we don't have a tour, but we will probably do it again next year.
Like every year, the tournament falls exactly between Ascension Day and Pentecost. So those who only want to play the tournament only need very few vacation days. If you include Dubai, the trip will take more than 2 weeks.

Program
The program for the Thailand Open 2020 events is as follows:
15-21 May Dubai tour
22-29 May Thailand Open
30 May Thailand Open Rapid and Blitz championship
May 31 to June 1, Bangkok

Participation
We also expect more native Thai dammers in the coming year. Checkers at the International game has now firmly established itself in Thailand and that will only make the tournament more fun. In addition to the Thai participants, we also expect many dammers from various Asian countries and of course also from the Netherlands.
The registration fee is € 55. The tournament will be played again in the beautiful Splendid resort! Stay in this players' hotel, just like in the 2019 edition, will be € 22.50 per person including a comprehensive breakfast buffet and based on a shared double room. There is a surcharge of € 30 for players who do not stay at the players' hotel or do not book through the organization. The latter is necessary in order to keep affordable. If we buy too few rooms in our players hotel, the hotel sees no possibilities to sponsor our tournament, which would mean the end of Thailand Open. We are looking forward to an undoubtedly exciting, fun and fun edition of Thailand Open again!

Registration is very simple. Sending an email to tjonaong@gmail.com is sufficient or a message to 06-33667244 Andrew Tjon A Ong. Everything can be arranged for you: from airline ticket and hotel reservation to transfers, and the Dubai tour!
The travel info from the Dubai tour will be published very soon.

Tournament
The tournament has eight rounds according to the Swiss system, with a playing pace of 80 minutes plus 1 minute per move. The tournament is recognized by the FMJD and there will be played according to FMJD rules. It will also be possible to achieve rating, standards and titles.
This year too we will have a very filled prize pool. It will further depend on the number of participants, but in recent years we have had around € 2000 in cash and in addition three round prizes each round, so that it will be interesting for both the world class players and the novice damper. Everyone is equally welcome !!!

So the tournament has eight rounds, but after that we have two more tournaments on the program, the Rapid and the Blitz championship. This has been specially programmed in such a way that Thai players, who cannot take so many days off for the main tournament, but would like to measure their strengths with players from other countries, can easily participate in these tournaments.

After this Rapid and Blitz tournament the fans go the next day with the group to Bangkok, where they can still use the arrangement to stay two more nights in Bangkok, before we will catch the flight back to the Netherlands on Tuesday morning, after which we will return to the same arrive early in the evening at Schiphol.

Programma

Inschrijven is erg simpel.

Iedereen is even welkom!!!
